sustainability

This sustainability ecosystem includes the Ratiu Guesthouses – the Ratiu Guesthouse, Gaia Mill House – and La Papion Cultural Café. Through all these, we also aim to offer premium services and a unique Transylvanian experience.

We capitalize on the Ratiu family history and are committed to promote the family values, with a special focus on our passion for Transylvania, on local traveling experiences and local cuisine, on our respect for cultural heritage, our care for the environment and our commitment to diversity.

The Ratiu Guesthouse is a member of the European Historical Houses Association. It creatively employs the rich history of the Compound and offers guests rooms with unique designs, all combining traditional rustic elements with a contemporary feel and harmonious colors.

The Ratiu Compound is a collection of restored historic buildings, clustered around a lovely courtyard, beside a little stream.  A new addition to this collection is the Gaia Millhouse – a former millhouse of Turda, which we rebuilt, together with the bridge that connected it to the Ratiu property. It is now open to the public as a guest house, with the aim of generating income to support the Ratiu Democracy Centre projects and events.

La Papion was the first social business designed on the premises of the Ratiu Compound. Named after the iconic accessory worn by Ion Ratiu, La Papion was developed around the concept of cultural café – a stylish and cozy venue that hosts local cultural events and also a reference meeting point in the community. It serves drinks, snacks and meals throughout the day, and promotes local cuisine and locally sourced ingredients.
